Octoolo changelog

What changed in each version of Octoolo, newest first.

The newest version below is the one Octoolo's automatic updates install: installed copies download it on their own and install it at Restart to update (see Install and update). The version running is shown in Settings > Updates; the current version is also in Prices and limits. Copies of 0.1.0 do not update themselves: install the newest version once from https://octoolo.com/download/Octoolo-Setup.exe.

0.8.1 (11 October 2026)

Changed

  • Text uses the full width of its card or page: the notes in Settings, the introductions at the top of pages, Help and feedback, and the empty screens of Converters, Files, the Media Player, Downloads, Productivity and Passwords no longer stop short and run onto extra lines.
  • A heading that runs onto two lines splits them evenly, and a paragraph no longer ends with one word alone on its last line. What people write (documents, notes, slides) keeps its own line breaks.

0.8.0 (10 October 2026)

New

  • Files, a new app (in the Utilities group): one home with four doors, Compress, Extract, Lock and Unlock, each a drop area. It opens ZIP, 7Z, RAR (versions 4 and 5, split and password-protected archives too), TAR and its compressed kinds (GZ, BZ2, XZ, ZST) and single GZ, BZ2, XZ and ZST files; extracts all or a selection, tests archives, converts them to ZIP, and makes ZIP and 7Z files, with an AES-256 password if wanted. It cannot make RAR files. See Files.
  • Lock with a password: Files turns a file or folder into one locked .olock file, and unlocks it again with the password.
  • Octoolo in File Explorer's right-click menu: Compress to ZIP, Compress… and Lock with a password… on files and folders; Extract here and Open in Octoolo… on archives; Unlock… on locked files. Double-clicking an .olock file unlocks it, and archives list Octoolo under Open with. On Windows 11 the items are under Show more options. A new Settings card, File Explorer, turns the menu off. Uninstalling removes it.
  • Media Player, a new app (in the Every day group): plays almost any video or song, several files, a folder or an M3U/PLS playlist, with subtitles (files beside the video, the video's own, or added), sound tracks, chapters, speed from 0.25× to 4×, volume up to 200%, A-B repeat, full screen, picture in picture, keep on top, resume where a file was left, VLC's and YouTube's keyboard keys and Windows' media keys.   • Translator in Text Studio (the Translate panel): translates on the PC, without sending text anywhere, after a one-time download per language direction; Translate a document… does Word files, PDFs and text files. See Text Studio.
  • Separate voice and music (the vocal remover) in the Audio Editor and the Video Editor: splits a sound into voice and music, or into voice, drums, bass and other instruments, on the PC, after a one-time download. See Audio Editor.
  • Settings > Downloaded parts lists the vocal remover and the translator languages on this PC, each with Remove.
  • The home screen's quick actions now include Translate text and Unzip a file (Make a budget is no longer one of them).

Changed

  • Octoolo now has 17 apps.
  • Files, the Media Player, the translator and the vocal remover are in Spanish, Portuguese and German too.

0.7.0 (10 October 2026)

New

  • Octoolo Cloud goes live in the app: the paid apps open with a subscription, started from the app with a free trial (Start your free week) or turned on with a license key (I have a license key). Some apps stay free. Prices, the trial and the free apps: Prices and limits; how it works: License and account.
  • A plan box in the home screen's sidebar and a Your plan card in Settings show the subscription on this PC, with Check now, Manage billing, Your account and Remove this PC.
  • The octoolo.com account (on the website, not in the app): sign in with an emailed code or link to see the plan, the license key and the PCs, change the card, cancel, and get invoices. See License and account.
  • Octoolo in Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil) and German. Settings > Language picks the language (or Same as Windows). Search finds apps and tasks in that language and in English; reminders understand time words in those languages; templates start in that language; the tray menu, notifications and folder pickers follow; the installer speaks all four languages.

Changed

  • Text boxes and lists keep their spacing everywhere: text boxes grow with their text, and lists have their own arrow and fit their longest choice.
  • In long languages, Settings and Feedback at the bottom of the sidebar wrap onto two lines instead of being cut off.

Fixed

  • Reminders set "in the afternoon" ring at 15:00 (they rang at noon).

  • Downloads, a new app (the 15th, in the Every day group): every download in one list (Windows' Downloads folder and the folders browsers save to), found by name or by the site it came from, with copies downloaded twice, unfinished downloads and archives already unzipped pointed out; sorting into folders by type, with a preview and Undo; and a download manager that pauses, resumes after a dropped connection and uses several connections for big files. Changed

  • The sidebar: the Octoolo logo at the top is the way home (the separate Home item is gone); Settings and Feedback (Help and feedback, now with a bug icon) sit in the bottom corner; the Convert group lists each converter (document, spreadsheet, presentation, image, video, audio).
  • The start screens of Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, the Photo Editor and the Vector Editor have the same title bar as every other app.

0.6.1 (10 October 2026)

  • Edit it after a recording: a screen recording goes straight onto the Video Editor's timeline, and a voice recording onto the Audio Editor's.

Fixed

  • Dialogs no longer spill past their edge (Export, Save the photo, the Photo Editor's dialogs and Your signature in the PDF Editor).
  • Updates install into the folder the running Octoolo is in. Before, a copy installed in another folder could stay on an old version.

0.6.0 (9 October 2026)

New

  • Converters, a new app: documents (Word, PDF, Markdown, web pages, text), spreadsheets (Excel, CSV, TSV, PDF, HTML), presentations (PDF or a picture per slide), pictures, and video and sound, each from one place. See Converters.
  • Save as PDF in Documents, Spreadsheets and Presentations is now Octoolo's own and no longer goes through a printer dialog.
  • Calculator: eleven new tools: days from a date (working days too), an hours calculator and weekly timesheet, fractions with the working shown, compound interest, GPA and the grade needed on a final, calories, and flip a coin, roll dice, random numbers and a wheel of names.
  • Text Studio side panels: Words (thesaurus, word unscrambler, Wordle helper), Convert (Morse code, text to binary, hex, decimal or octal, fancy text) and Check (spelling and grammar, English).
  • Dev Toolbox: a barcode generator and a color palette generator.
  • Photo Editor: a task to remove objects, which opens the Remove brush.
  • The home screen in groups (Create, Documents, Convert, Every day, Utilities), with Customize to pin apps to the top and hide the ones you do not use (search still finds them), and Pick up where you left off. Settings gets a Your home screen card.
  • Help and feedback: report a problem, ask for a feature, suggest an idea or ask a question from the home screen or any app, and read the team's replies in the app.
  • Usage statistics (without names or emails; Settings calls them anonymous), with a switch and See what is sent in Settings > What leaves this computer, and a one-time note on the home screen. See Privacy and data.
  • When an app breaks, an error screen ("Something went wrong in ...") with Try again, All apps, Copy the details and Restart Octoolo's window, instead of a blank window.
  • When Octoolo cannot start, a box says so ("Octoolo could not start.") and where the log is; crashes are written to the log.

  • Octoolo now has 14 apps.
  • The window fits smaller screens (such as 1366 × 768 laptops).

0.5.1 (9 October 2026)

Changed

  • Faster background removal in the Photo Editor: about 3 seconds instead of 5 to 9 on the processor. Its AI model now downloads from octoolo.com and is a bigger download than before. Settings > What leaves this computer says so.

  • Productivity, a new app: to-dos and reminders (typed in plain words such as "pay rent on the 1st every month"), notes, a habit tracker, a Pomodoro timer, timers, a stopwatch, an alarm clock, a subscription tracker, screen time (off until turned on) and a shutdown timer. Reminders, alarms and timers ring as Windows notifications with buttons (Done, Snooze...). See Productivity.
  • While something is planned, closing the window keeps Octoolo running in the corner of the taskbar, and Octoolo can start with Windows. Settings gets a Reminders and the background card.
  • Only one Octoolo runs at a time: starting it again shows the one that runs.

0.4.0 (9 October 2026)

New

  • A new Photo Editor: layers, groups, masks, Photoshop's blend modes, adjustment layers and live filters that stay editable, selections (including AI subject and object selection), brushes, clone and heal, text and shapes that stay editable, PSD files in and out, .ophoto projects, Photoshop's shortcuts and a command search. It draws with the graphics card; on PCs where that is not possible (remote desktops, virtual machines) a simpler editor opens instead. See Photo Editor.
  • Vector Editor, a new app: Illustrator-style pen, curvature and pencil tools, live shapes and shape combining, text on a path, artboards and Image Trace; opens SVG, PDF and PDF-compatible .ai files; saves SVG, PDF and PNG. See Vector Editor.
  • AI on the PC: remove the background, select a subject or object, remove things, upscale pictures and tell near from far for a background blur, after a one-time download of each part. Nothing is uploaded.

  • Automatic updates: the first version that updates itself. Octoolo checks octoolo.com a little after it starts and every 4 hours, downloads a new version in the background, and offers Restart to update.
  • Twelve apps instead of separate tools: the home screen lists the apps, and one search ("What do you want to do?") finds apps and the tasks inside them.
  • Video Editor: a timeline to cut, arrange, title and export videos (MP4, GIF, MP3), with the screen recorder.
  • Audio Editor: the video editor's timeline for sound, with clean-up and export to MP3, M4A, WAV, FLAC, Opus or a ringtone.
  • Photo Editor (a first, simpler version, replaced in 0.4.0): crop, adjust, filters, text, drawing and saving in one window.
